THERE is an increased risk of severe tropical cyclones for Fiji in the 2019/2020 cyclone season, says the Fiji Meteorological Office.
In their tropical cyclone outlook published today, Fiji Met is forecasting one or two cyclones to affect Fiji in the 2019-2020 season that starts on November 1.
These cyclones may reach category 3 or be even stronger.
Fiji Met says the risk of tropical cyclone activity is likely to be near normal during the TC season.
“In other words, one to two tropical cyclones could pass through Fiji’s Exclusive Economic Zone. Furthermore, there is increased risk of severe tropical cyclones for Fiji this season as one of two tropical cyclones likely to pass through Fiji’s EEZ may attain category three intensity or higher,” says Fiji Met.
