HUNDREDS of workers in the tourism industry have been sent home as resorts, hotels and tour operators in the West shut down because of the impact of COVID-19.

Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa in the Coral Coast sent 154 employees home without pay while 140 workers of Tourist Transport Fiji and Yatule Resort and Spa were also asked to stay home — some on paid leave and others getting 2.5 days of wages per week.
