COVID-19: Fiji can access technical assistance from World Tourism Organisation

Fiji can access technical assistance from the World Tourism Organisation under a program released by UNWTO aimed at supporting jobs and economies related to COVID-19.

The technical assistance is being offered in three categories, which are ‘managing the crisis and mitigating the impact”, “providing stimulus and accelerating recovery” and “preparing for tomorrow”.

“In order to assist Member States in developing this gradual approach to recovery, UNWTO has designed the “COVID-19 Tourism Recovery Technical Assistance Package,” states UNWTO.

“The package offers guidance to both public and private tourism sector stakeholders in their crisis response by, firstly, outlining UNWTO’s range of technical assistance, and, secondly, detailing potential areas of intervention, including impact assessment, roles and responsibilities.”

The UNWTO says tourism is an economic powerhouse and one of the main pillars sustaining global growth and development.

Tourism represents 30 per cent of the world’s exports of services and 1 in every 10 jobs worldwide, states UNWTO.
