Fiji cannot have an integrity commission linked to the Judiciary, says Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

He made the comments during the Committee of Supply sitting in Parliament on Wednesday after a motion was tabled by Opposition Member of Parliament Viliame Gavoka.

“I am recommending is to accommodate or take in an integrity commissioner under the Judiciary,” Mr Gavoka said.

“In other jurisdictions, Mr Chairman, this part time position is on a needs basis without a permanent office, and normally it has a retired judge, who acts as a Commissioner,” he said.
