A Police constable based at the Lautoka Police Station has been commended for arresting a suspect in a burglary case while he was off duty.

Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said they needed more officers like Constable Peni Cavuilagi.

“This recognition is to recognise the efforts of our men on the ground,” he said.

“The uniform that we are wearing demands us to be on duty 24-7, in uniform or without uniform, official or unofficial, we are on call 24-7.”

ACP Tudravu said Constable Cavuilagi “heard the call of duty and went straight in”.

“Who knows, he could have saved a life that day and we need more officers like Peni in the police force.”
