Naicker: It is too much

The Rakiraki Market Vendors Association has objected to the implementation of the proposed Local Government (Municipal Market)
Regulations 2020.

Association acting president Gopal Naicker said 120 vendors unanimously objected to the draft law sent to them for comments.

“All of them said they didn’t want the $1000 and $2000 annual stall fees,” he said.

“It is too much and vendors won’t be able to pay.”

He said the Rakiraki Municipal Market had eight elderly vendors who sold liquid kava and relied on the earnings for their livelihood.

“We are relying on Government to assist us in these trying times, but this proposed Bill will do the opposite.”
