THE buck stops with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, and as head of Government he must hold himself accountable for the draft Police Bill 2020 fiasco.
These were the words of Social Democratic Liberal Party leader Viliame Gavoka as the United Nations Development Programme said yesterday Government had requested support for nationwide public consultations on the draft Police Bill 2020.
In the meantime, permanent secretary in the PM’s Office Yogesh Karan said it would stand by comments made by the PM that Government was unaware of the proposed Police Bill 2020.
According to media reports the PM said the Bill was “drafted and released unilaterally by the Fijian Police Force” and “not cleared by the Solicitor General’s office nor was it brought to Cabinet for Government’s endorsement”.
