Police confirm sacrilige at Shri Vishnu temple

POLICE have confirmed an alleged sacrilege at the Shri Vishnu Temple in Saweni, Lautoka.

Temple executives discovered the break-in on the morning of Wednesday, April 24 and reported the matter to police.

“A day before, there was a prayer session at the temple and the premises were fully closed and secured,” said a temple executive on the condition of anonymity.

“Our temple is right beside the highway and this is the first time it has been broken into.”

Items stolen from the temple included one gas cylinder, lead wires, folding table, four gallons of paint, flicking lights, a stand fan, tarpaulin, cooking utensils and pooja items.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said investigations were in progress.
