First road fatality for 2025 recorded

The first road fatality for 2025 has been recorded in Savusavu this morning.

The 46-year-old farmer of Vivili village, Savusavu, was walking along Naidi, Buca Bay Road, when a vehicle coming from the opposite direction lost control and drifted towards the side of the road where he was.

The vehicle bumped the farmer, and he died on the spot.

“It’s sad because we will start the new school year tomorrow, and drivers will need to consider the thousands of students who will be using our roads,” said Fiji Police Force Director of Traffic Control, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana.

“We are calling on everyone to be cautious while on the road. If you are traveling in the bus, taxi, or even as a pedestrian on the road, please exercise safety at times.”

The driver of the said vehicle is in Police custody as the investigation is underway.
