Police: Destruction area secured

DIRECTOR operations Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe has reassured the public not to worry about security breaches during the week-long destruction of 4.5 tonnes of methamphetamine.

At the Dignified Crematorium in Nausori yesterday, the area was visibly secured with a heavy presence of both army officers and police, closely monitoring the situation.

“We don’t have any security threats at the moment,” SSP Vusonilawe said in a statement to the media.

“I want to assure the public that the area is secure, as we have personnel dedicated to overseeing the situation.”

He said security measures were in place two days before the destruction began, with coverage continuing daily from 8am to 5pm until all the drugs were destroyed.

“We are well prepared on the ground, and the area has been secured as part of the measures we implemented months ago,” SSP Vusonilawe said.

“I can assure the public that they do not need to worry about anything.”

The operation is being closely monitored by police officers and a few soldiers of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, ensuring safety throughout the process.
