Two weeks without water

About 60 households along Viseisei Back Rd East in Lautoka have been without a proper water supply for the past two weeks.

Resident Vijay Lal said he had been surviving on rainwater collected in tanks, and there was no water in the Water Authority’s reservoir.

“Yesterday (Monday) I visited the WAF office in Lautoka,” he said.

“WAF responded late with the water carting service to our area at around 6pm on Monday. How can one water truck cover the water supply to more than 60 households?

Mr Lal said students had not been attending classes as a result of the water problem.

“Other residents on Viseisei Back Rd West are receiving water, but we are not.”

Meanwhile, the Water Authority of Fiji acting manager for communications & stakeholder engagement Peni Shute said the authority was looking at resolving the water supply issues.

“Water carting relief is also being deployed to assist affected residents,” Mr Shute said.
