Rooster Fijian Drua W key players Asinate Serevi and Siteri Rasolea shared their thoughts ahead of the much-awaited clash against the Reds this Sunday.
The two teams were finalists in the 2023 Super W, with the Fijiana emerging victorious with a 38-30 win over the Reds.
The duo, who have been rested for the opening match, were part of the Anchor Breakfast Club at Mulomulo Muslim Primary School in Nadi yesterday.
The lanky Serevi said the tea, was polishing final details these few days leading up to their first round of Super W this Sunday at 3.35pm.
“Training has been good; we are polishing the last few bits going into our first game.
The growth is exciting, nervous, knowing all these teams are coming for us,” Serevi said.
With a blend of new talent and experienced players, the team focused on creating chemistry.
Serevi highlighted the significance of unity, acknowledging the presence of both new and experienced players, as well as a new coaching staff.
“This is an exciting journey, we have new girls, and we have experienced players as well. So just having that blend of chemistry between the two and knowing that we have a new set of coaches and management, I’m so excited for this,” Serevi added.
As the Fijiana delved into the tactical side, they acknowledged the challenges posed by the Reds. Having studied a few games and facing them the previous years, the team acknowledged the uncertainty that comes with a new season.
“We’ve watched a couple of games that they’ve had. We also played them last year, but we can’t tell how good they are, and they can’t tell how good we are. But we know it’s going to be fast,” Serevi added.
Born and bred in Brisbane, prop Siteri Rasolea is no stranger to the Reds team.
“I think there will be a lot of experience coming from the Reds, but we also have experienced players within our pack. So, I think just making sure that we stick to the basics,” Rasolea said.
Amidst the preparations, the players acknowledged the support from the Fijian community back in Brisbane. Rasolea emphasized the importance of community support, rallying her family members and urging everyone to come down in numbers.
“I think the community is a great one. I grew up there. So, I’ve been rallying my family members to make sure that they get out there and support the girls.
“Just making sure everyone comes down in numbers to be able to support the girls and women’s rugby in total,” Rasolea added.
