THE Nasinu Town Council looks forward to the construction of its new multi-purpose gym and soccer and rugby ground this year.

Nasinu Town Council special administrator Mosese Kama said the cost of developing the ground was $200,000 and the multi-purpose gym was $551,000.

Mr Kama said the council had been assisted by the Prime Minister’s Office and Local Government Ministry.

“There will be a fully developed and fenced rugby and soccer ground because we do not have any facility right now in Nasinu. The project is expected to have a good turf and there will be changing rooms for both men and women.

As we progress in the development we hope to get a pavilion too.” He said the council had drawn up a plan for the pavilion which could cater for 5000 people.

“The multi purpose gym is expected to cater for indoor sports like volleyball tournaments, basketball, netball and badminton. The facility will have a good parking lot too. We hope to finish the rugby and soccer ground in three months.

“The council will be doing the construction work themselves with the help of private contractors.”

Mr Kama said a lot of young people would benefit from the projects because most of them went to Suva to use such facilities.
