IN large numbers, students and their parents visited the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Scheme office to enquire about the National Toppers Scheme for this year.

Tertiary Scholarships and Loan Scheme board chairman Dixon Seeto said children had been bringing their parents to fill the National Toppers Scheme forms and to get detailed information about the scholarship.

“The results have come out and we have been given the results by the Minister for Education and we are working through that now,” Mr Seeto said.

“The students can download the scholarship forms and apply and send it to us via email. We have a website that the students can go to that would assist them with what they can do.”

He said they hoped to get 600 toppers scholarship for this year like in the past, mainly prioritising the areas of study as indicated by the Government.

“For instance, last year we did not have any scholarships for lawyers because there is an abundance of lawyers and there is also a limitation on the medical side because of the physical capability of what the Fiji School of Nursing and the Fiji Medical School can handle.”

He said students interested in the loans scheme should get a place in university first before the board could assist them with the loan.

“Our office has moved from Suvavou House to the Fiji Nurses Association building at McGregor Rd and we have staff members working round-the-clock.

“Our staff members are on standby to assist children and parents in getting information they might need and who needs to submit forms.”
