Shipping Times: Pilotage training for Navy officers

The Republic of Fiji Navy’s navigation officers ended their pilotage training this month.

According to the Fiji Navy, majority of the junior officers from the executive branch had received their training from a multitude of foreign partner navies.

“The refresher course was essential in consolidating their knowledge learned overseas with the exigencies to pilot in Fiji’s unique naval operating environment,” the Fiji Navy highlighted.

“The 10-day course began with a theory phase and concluded with practical runs within Suva harbour.”

The training was conducted in-house by Royal Australian Navy resident maritime surveillance advisor Lieutenant Commander Julia Griffin and senior specialist fleet officers.
