$109m on upgrades

THE total cost of government development projects for the province of Tailevu for the year 2010 to 2013 is estimated at more than $109million.

This was highlighted by Prime Minister Rear Admiral Voreqe Bainimarama while opening the Tailevu Provincial Council meeting in Nausori yesterday.

Rear Admiral Bainimarama said the $109m was used in road, water, electrification projects, agriculture, fisheries, health and education within the province.

He said apart from the $109m that was used for government projects, his office provided $5.9m for the year 2007 until 2013 in assistance.

For the year 2015 to 2016, he said development projects included the Natila Village access road that cost $274,070, the Vorovoro bridge in Sawakasa billed $118,200 and the Sote bridge which cost $341,600.

He said there were also other projects under the Ministry of Health, such as the Nausori Hospital, Dawasamu Nursing Station, Nayavu Standard Health and the Lodoni Duplex project.

He said the Tailevu Provincial Council meeting was an important event for the province because it highlighted every development projects that took place in Tailevu.

Rear Admiral Bainimarama during his visit also got a chance to listen to people raise their concerns on issues relating to development within the province.
