Republic of Fiji Military Forces soldiers who were initially employed to monitor COVID-19 quarantine facilities are now undertaking a whole range of tasks.

Defence and national Security Minister Inia Seruiratu said this in Parliament while responding to a question from Opposition MP Pio Tikoduadua on whether a report on the internal inquiry conducted into quarantine facility protocol breaches by soldiers had been produced.

Mr Seruiratu said instead of just conducting security work, soldiers were involved in a lot of other work.

He said this included checking in people at the facilities, helping with their luggage, delivery of food during meal times to individual rooms, picking up dirty laundry from rooms and returning them after they were cleaned.

Mr Seruiratu also said soldiers delivered clean linen and retrieved soiled ones from rooms, received and delivered items sent by family members of those in quarantine, supervised outdoor physical activities and even acted as runners for quarantined persons.
