Ravinesh Kumar is a “battler” in every sense of the word.

Five years ago he was driving buses for a living.

Today, he is the proud owner of Mr Food Bus, a mobile fast food outlet that produces meals on the go.

“Driving buses was OK but I wanted to do something more so I began selling food from my car five years ago,” the 30-year-old said.

“My target market was commuters and people living along the Suva-Nakasi corridor.

“Over time I began to build a good customer base, maybe because my food is very tasty.”

As business picked up, Mr Kumar decided to take the plunge and invested in a truck. He spent a hefty sum in sprucing it up and called it Mr Food Truck.

“I operated that for two years and business really began to pick up because I was able to make pizzas, burgers, subs, Chinese dishes and fish and chips on the spot.

“People knew that when they placed an order, they were getting freshly cooked food. I believe that really made my food truck very popular.”

After operating Mr Food Truck for two years, Mr Kumar took another gamble and bought a bigger vehicle which he christened Mr Food Bus.

“I have built up a good customer base over the past five years and business is going really well, that’s why I decided to expand into a bus.”

Mr Kumar said his business supports the livelihood of his parents, wife and two children.
