A LITTLE over a week after black deposits of an unknown substance polluted the Viseisei Village shoreline in Vuda, residents are complaining that no one has come forward and visited the community.
Vuda Resource committee chairwoman Makelesi Tavaiqia said the lack of response from Government departments such as Environment and Marine Safety Authority of Fiji was worrying.
“Imagine what would happen if we had a real crisis on our hands, who would we be able to turn to?”
She said the deposits could have some impact on the marine life that villagers relied on for income.
“Our people and even those from surrounding communities forage along the shore and lagoon during low tide for seafood which is often sold for income or used for food.”
