DESPITE suffering extensive damage from Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston and being shut-down since last Sunday, staff members at the Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel continue to be employed and paid.
Tanoa Waterfront Hotel general manager Narend Kumar said this was the best way to provide support to staff who had been affected by natural disasters such as Severe TC Winston.
“If they are out of work and not receiving an income then they will be in a very difficult situation,” he said.
The Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel, widely regarded as an iconic property in the area, suffered extensive damage when Severe TC Winston blew off the roof and damaged a significant portion of the infrastructure.
Concerned about the livelihoods of its 30 workers, staff members from the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka pulled out funds from their social club to assist their Rakiraki cohorts.
Mr Kumar said it was the least they could do for their workers.
“Tanoa Waterfront Hotel staff collected clothes and forked out $1200 from their social fund to assist colleagues at Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel,” he said.
