No weather threat to Fiji

A LOW pressure system that was identified earlier this week near the Solomon Islands and located near southern Vanuatu yesterday morning poses no threat to Fiji.

This was the word from Fiji Meteorological Service director Ravind Kumar.

He said apart from thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, the system was not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone.

Mr Kumar, however, said clouds associated with the system would bring rain that was expected to affect the Fiji Group.

“People can expect cloudy periods with some showers over the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, Southern Lau Group and the interior and northern parts of the larger islands.”

Mr Kumar said the warm and humid conditions experienced in the country was linked to a northerly wind flow affecting Fiji.
