THREE villages in Nadroga-Navosa now have a place to seek shelter during extreme weather events, thanks to the construction of an $800,000 evacuation centre at Narata Village.

New Zealand ambassador Mark Ramsden opened the centre yesterday, saying the idea to construct the building came to light after the devastating floods associated with Tropical Cyclone Evan.

The beneficiaries of the project are the villagers of Narata, Dreke and Rararua and nearby communities.
