DON’T let anybody kill your dream.

This was the message from international recording artist Iyaz and Papua New Guinea singing sensation Kali-D to young Fijian artists trying to make it big in the music scene during a press conference at Victoria Café yesterday.

The duo will be performing at Onyz Platinum Night Club tonight.

Both have amassed millions of fans across the Pacific and the world and shared intimate insights into what it takes to become music superstars.

“Work hard, don’t stop, don’t take no for an answer,” shared Iyaz.

The 31-year-old British Virgin Isles native was discovered by Sean Kingston found Iyaz through his Myspace page in 2008 and later signed him to a recording contract.

Iyaz released “Replay” in 2010, which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and at number one in several territories, including the United Kingdom.

His second single “Solo” was released in February 2010, and peaked at number 32 on the Hot 100. One of Iyaz’s biggest hits So Big has amassed 65 million views on YouTube to date.

His message to aspiring Fijian artists is to “keep on keeping on.”

“Don’t let anybody kill your dream. “There’s going to be a lot of people saying stuff like ‘yeah you don’t have what it takes, you’re not there yet, you’re not this or you’re not that’ but you have to start somewhere, Rome was not built in a day.”

Kali-D’s message to Fijian youngsters is just to “believe”. “You have got to have faith in yourself,” the 27-yearold shared.

“If you have self-confidence and believe in yourself then you just got to chase it. “So many people told me to forget it and focus on my day job, but if you put the hard yards in, you can do it.

“I’ve kept at it and I’m here in Fiji and loving it.”
