Australian Defence Force commends Fijian army personnel

FIJIAN military troops who were deployed to Victoria at the height of the bushfire have earned the accolades of the Australian Defence Force for their “remarkable” support to restoring lives and rebuilding communities.

Chief of the Australian Defence Force General Angus Campbell expressed gratitude and appreciation to the 54-member team from the RFMF’s engineering unit.

A Government statement issued today stated the officers were spoken of highly in the work they carried out to support the Australian Defence Force operationalise its rebuilding efforts.

The team was also visited by Fiji’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence Inia Seruiratu on Monday at Orbost, Victoria, following his briefing with the Australian Defence Forces.

In the statement, Mr Seruiratu was quoted saying Fiji was proud of the impressive achievements of the army personnel.

He said this collaboration testified to the resilient spirit and unbreakable friendship of the Australian and Fijian people.

Mr Seruiratu was accompanied by the Counsellor at the Fiji High Commission Salote Tagivakatini and senior officials of the Australian Defence Force during the tour.
