MINISTRY of Education permanent secretary Alison Burchell has acknowledged the Australian government’s continued support towards strengthening Fiji’s education sector.

“The support from the Australian government, not just for the next four years but from recent years too, has enabled the ministry to move forward on several fronts, complementing initiatives to modernise education,” Ms Burchell said.

“Of particular assistance has been the support for internet connectivity, special needs education, inclusive education, as well as the ongoing support to our teacher training system. We thank DFAT for its ongoing support.”

Ms Burchell made the comments today while opening the ‘Australia’s Support to Fiji’s Education Sector’ stakeholders meeting.

The meeting is an opportunity for representatives from government, tertiary and teacher training institutions, teacher unions, development partners, faith-based and civil society organisations to collectively deliberate and provide advice.
