Top-seeded Roger Federer reached the semifinals of the Swiss Indoors Basel in walkover fashion, while Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas had to rally on Friday to set up their showdown.

Fellow Swiss Stan Wawrinka withdrew due to a sore back to move Federer closer to his 10th title at the event. Meanwhile, the third-seeded Tsitsipas had 38 winners against 26 unforced errors while rallying for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 quarterfinal victory over Serbian Filip Krajinovic.

Reilly Opelka delivered 31 aces while overpowering fourth-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the semis. Opelka faces Australia’s Alex de Minaur, who posted a 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory over Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff.
