ATHLETICS Fiji wants to select the best athletes to represent Team Fiji at the upcoming Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.
And in doing so, the association is organising a coaching clinic today where all athletes in the extended training squad are required to attend at the ANZ stadium.
Top coaches such as Jone Delai, Bola Tafoou, Henry Elder, Benedito Qumi and James Goulding will be briefing athletes in their respective events.
In a statement released, the association said it wanted to reclaim its number one status in the region.
“This is part of Athletics Fiji’s preparation plan to ensure that we send the best athletics team to the Pacific Games and to take our standing back to number one in the Pacific,” the statement said.
“Athletics Fiji will be hosting a coaching clinic for its athletes in the Pacific Games training squad.
“Athletes attending the clinic will be assisted by Athletics Fijis Pacific Games Coaches and will cover all aspects of training in all disciplines.
“The Coaches include chief coach and multi events, Albert Miller —— Sprints Jone Delai, Bola Tafoou, Distance —— Sheik Dean, Makalesi Bulikiobo, Jumps —— Henry Elder, Benedito Qumi, Hurdles —— Jovesa Naivalu, Throws —— James Goulding and Maurice Erasito.”
The first Pacific Games trials will be held at the ANZ Stadium on January 31 from 9am to 4pm.
