Athletics Fiji has begun its weekly competition to boost the athletes as they prepare for their zone and Coca-Cola Games.

National rep Eugene Vollmer said this would provide a platform for secondary schools students who are preparing for the national zone.

“This Saturday competition is one of many competitions that Athletics Fiji will be using to gauge some senior athletes’ performances,” Vollmer said.

“As well start looking out for athletes who will be looking to make the team for the Melanesian Championships that will be held in Lautoka in June.

“Athletics Fiji also hosts competitions like these for high school athletes who are preparing for zone meets and the Coca-Cola Games.

“Most of the times athletes train so hard and only get to compete once or twice (zone competition and Coca-Cola), having regular competitions is a great way to improve performance and competition experience.

“What is important that we get the ball rolling so athletes may gauge themselves for the long season ahead.”

Vollmer added that every competitions were important because it was a huge turnout from young aspiring athletes.
