THE Fiji Taxi Association has strongly condemned an alleged incident involving a taxidriver who was caught on video watching pornography while driving.
The video taken by a lone female passenger was shared on social media by her friend.
Association General Secretary Ashwin Lal said no customer should ever be subjected to such harassment and called on authorities to investigate the matter.
He said although the association had not been officially informed of the incident, it would investigate the matter as such behaviour was unacceptable, and the driver should be held accountable.
“Drivers are meant to take passengers to their destination smoothly, not watch pornography while driving,” he said.
“They are not even supposed to be picking their phones while driving.
“And if that is the case, the driver should be charged for that as well.”
Mr Lal said at the end of the day, it reflected terribly on the taxi industry and operators, creating an environment of fear.
The Fiji Police said it has not received any report of the incident and is encouraging the victim to come forth, so investigations can take place.
