With a handful of “new blood” in the Vodafone Fijiana 15s side, veteran lock Asinate Serevi says the team has been blending well with the youngsters as they prepare for their first World XV competition.
The Inoke Male-coached side will play two Test matches against the Japanese women’s side before the World XV competition.
During a training session with the squad at Bidesi Park in Suva, the 28-year-old said they were excited and happy to have new talents in the squad.
“They bring a lot of talent to the team, and we are very excited to have them here with us as we prepare for our first Test match with Japan,” she said.
“They’re blending well with the other players here in the team, and it doesn’t feel like they’re new.”
Serevi also mentioned while the team was preparing well for their first Test match, they were aware of the danger Japan posed.
“We know it will not be an easy match but we are looking forward to the challenge and we can’t wait to get on the field.
“We will be playing them twice, so we are preparing well and we will need to work hard in these days we have left if we want to come out with a win.”
Asinate, daughter of Waisale Serevi, better known as the “King of Sevens”, has been representing the Fijiana side for the past two years and played a huge role in the Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua side in their back-to-back wins of the Super W title.
She also took up captaincy roles for the Fijiana 15s and Fijian Drua side in the past two years.
“There’s a lot of things we’re working on as we prepare for the Japan Test as we know they are a very physical side with a lot of speed in their attacking phases.”
