TEAM Fiji will be competing in the four sporting disciplines namely swimming, athletics, tennis and weight-lifting at the 2017 Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games.
Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympics Committee (FASANOC) chief executive officer Lorraine Mar said this would be the first time for anyone from the region to be competing in the Asian Games.
“This is the first time that anyone from Oceania is going to compete in the games and this says much about the co-operation between the Asia region and the Oceanic region,” Mar said.
She said from their point of view this provided another platform for another competition.
Team Fiji chef de mission Sale Sorovaki said they would be leaving with a contingent of 41, which consisted of both athletes and personnel.
“For us as Team Fiji we are looking forward to taking part in this competition and there is a lot of competition that is in store for our athletes,” Sorovaki said.
According to FASANOC the team is expected to leave Fiji on September 13.
