Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has urged the people of Naroi Village on Moala Island in Lau to work together as a community for the betterment of the children and their education.

Speaking to the villagers during a ministerial visit, Mr Radrodro said there were about 13,000 teachers serving in primary, secondary and ECE schools in Fiji, and great importance must be shown towards educating them as the Government has noted the growing number of school dropouts.

“We are urging students and teachers to take advantage of the initiatives and resources being given by the Government,” Mr Radrodro said.

“The Ministry of Education is the biggest ministry under the Government and received the largest portion of the budget announced by Finance Minister Biman Prasad.

“It is important for our teachers to carry out their duties so that our children can be educated well.”

Mr Radrodro said not only was the Government urging the teachers, but also the villagers, parents, village chiefs, the police and the church as well to work together to help the children get the education they deserve and help raise the education standard in Fiji.

“There is an issue with the increase in the number of school dropouts in Fiji as well, so we urge everyone to help in the welfare of every child when it comes to education.

“The Government has come up with initiatives such as the TSLS free loans schemes and we are trying to add more vocational educational training institutions, creating a path for our children’s education.

“So, I’m urging everyone, not only those of you here on Moala Island, but also those who we will be visiting and have visited to please, think of our children.”
