THE Republic of Fiji Military Forces continue its preparations for the Sukuna Bowl with their netball and volleyball tournament kicking off yesterday at the National Netball Centre and the LICI Courts in Laucala Bay, Suva.
The three-day tournament started on Thursday with a church service and an annual general meeting that saw the election of the next bearers of office for the RFMF Wives and Mothers club.
Yesterday competition officially began the respective venues with representatives of the 12 units strutting their stuff in both sports.
The tournament is crucial as it serves as a selection platform for the annual event that is the Sukuna Bowl.
“After the competition, we are going to select our netball and volleyball teams for the upcoming Sukuna Bowl,” president of the RFMF Wives and Mothers club Salote Tavainavesi said.
“We have a lot of talented women out there, when it comes to selecting the main lineup for the Sukuna Bowl, it becomes a very challenging work for our panel of selectors.
“There was so much discussion on the selection yesterday during our AGM because they have trained so hard, a lot of sacrifices and commitment away from home to be part of the training program and to be here they are eyeing to be selected, to represent the RFMF, unfortunately we will have to pick one team for the netball and volleyball.”
The tournament returned to Suva after two years.
In 2023 and 2024, the tournament was being held in Nadi however, given that majority of the participants resided in Suva, a motion was moved and approved during the AGM last year to bring it back to the capital city.
