Good hygiene is one of the most effective ways to protect families and communities from illness. Bacteria and germs are present on nearly every surface we touch and even on our own skin.
While many microorganisms are harmless, some can cause serious infections, particularly in shared spaces like schools, workplaces, public transport, and homes.
The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the importance of handwashing and surface disinfection as essential preventive measures.
Simple hygiene practices, such as using antibacterial soaps, hand washes, and disinfectants, continue to play a critical role in reducing the spread of diseases.
Ocean Soap Pte Ltd Company has long been a trusted provider of household and personal care products.
Its range includes soaps, detergents, cleaners, and hygiene solutions used by families across Fiji and throughout the South Pacific.
In response to public health needs, the company developed Bodyguard and Medx antibacterial products. MedX Antibacterial Disinfectants are easy to recognise because their labels say they disinfect, kill germs and bacteria, or sanitise.
However, their active ingredients and formulations go beyond simple cleaning. They kill or control the growth of microorganisms.
Health experts stress that consistent use of disinfectants and hand hygiene is a simple but powerful way to prevent illness.
To further encourage hygiene practices, Ocean Soap Company has launched a national initiative, “BODYGUARD – The Ultimate Drua Experience”, running from 5 January to 30 April 2026.
Consumers can enter the promotion by purchasing Bodyguard Antibacterial Cleansing Bars (3’s or 5’s, any variant) and submitting their receipt via supermarket entry bins, post, or by scanning QR codes on advertisements.
A total of 35 winners will be selected during the promotion, with each draw giving five winners the opportunity to watch a home rugby game from the Bodyguard Sofa, complete with snacks and $100 spending money.
Games will be held in Lautoka, Ba, and Suva, offering a safe, enjoyable way for winners to engage with the community while celebrating health and hygiene awareness.
Why antibacterial hygiene matters;
m Germs can survive on surfaces for hours or days, even when areas appear clean;
m Common surfaces like door handles, counters, taps, and children’s toys can harbour bacteria;
m Regular use of antibacterial soaps and surface disinfectants reduces the spread of harmful microorganisms; and
m Practicing consistent handwashing and surface hygiene protects individuals and communities from illness
Promoting good hygiene is a shared responsibility. By incorporating products like MedX and Bodyguard into daily routines, Fijians can protect their families and contribute to safer public environments.
