The country can expect more severe weather tonight as another trough of low pressure is expected to move over the country, bringing additional cloud, showers and rain to an already saturated landscape.
The National Weather Forecasting Centre has issued Special Weather Bulletin Number 16, maintaining a heavy rain warning for the northern and eastern divisions and extending a heavy rain alert to the rest of the country.
This bulletin was issued at 4:30pm.
Forecasters say the current active trough will continue to affect the northern and eastern parts of Fiji until tomorrow, but conditions may worsen as the second system approaches.
The Northern Division, Lau and the Lomaiviti Group can expect periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms, while rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the rest of Fiji from tonight.
The warning comes as some areas recorded significant rainfall in the past 24 hours, including Dreketilailai (266mm), Nayarabale (252mm), Wairikicake (215mm) and Vanua Balavu (163.5mm).
Authorities warn of major flooding in low-lying and flood-prone communities, potential flooding on major roads and widespread traffic disruptions.
Reduced visibility and slippery roads during heavy downpours are expected to increase the risk of accidents.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and stay updated with official weather advisories as conditions evolve.
