The Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts announces that after a week’s closure of schools in the Western Division last week because of inclement weather, all schools will open from today. This means all schools throughout Fiji will now be open for classes for ECE to year 13.

As announced earlier, year 13 examinations, which started on 1 February were paused until 14 February for students to undertake their remaining papers.

Similarly, year 12 examinations, which were to start from 7 February, are rescheduled to commence from today, 14 February.

The Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Premila Kumar, has urged all ECE to year 11 students to attend classes and for year 12 and 13 students to sit for their exams from 14 February. The sequence of papers for both examinations remains as per the original schedule.

The Minister said that attendance of ECE to year 11 students was also high and with the clearance of inclement weather, classes are expected to record even higher attendance.

Minister Kumar thanked parents and guardians for allowing their children to attend face to face classes. She also thanked the Heads of Schools and teachers for their hard work in preparing the schools for the return of children to school.

“It is important for years 1 to 11 to attend classes in this term, which is the fourth term for the academic year 2021, to catch up with the lost hours of learning because of the closure of schools for over 8 months,” said the Minister.

The Minister emphasised that all students must observe COVID-Safe protocols in schools, homes, and communities, and urged parents and teachers to take extra care of their children.

The Ministry wishes all students the very best for their examinations and for the learning in term 4.
