The National Development Plan (NDP) will give clarity to business owners, families and other stakeholders who have been contributing to Fiji’s economy, says Pacific Operations managing director Paulo Ralulu.

Mr Ralulu said the requirements to set up a business, the type of compliance that people needed to have and ensuring that taxes were transparent would all be included in the NDP.

“Basically, from a private sector approach, the entire costs come first,” he said.

“And then you look at people, how you can have the right people to run your business, and then finally look at the environment.”

Mr Ralulu said the area was around framework and policies, “making it very clear on what the requirements are for a business, the type of compliance that we need to have”.

“On the taxes front, we ensure that taxes are transparent.

“We know what we have been charged for our taxes, and for those who can invest in other areas to be able to balance that off.”

Mr Ralulu said all these issues were covered by NDP.

“We depend on the Government to make sure our schools are running and one of the things they’re doing is the free education, making sure kids are in school, not only getting them to higher education but how to keep them in the system so that they move into businesses or start their own businesses.

“So, the plan overall is a real improvement.”
