Police are once again sounding the alarm for Fijians to recognise the dangers of “overindulgence” when consuming alcohol.

This comes after a recent spate of crimes recorded by police have resulted in serious injuries and deaths.

Acting Police Commissioner Aporosa Lutunauga called on members of the community to exercise caution and enjoy in moderation.

“Of particular concern during the festive ‘ops’ is the overindulgence of alcohol which has resulted in serious injuries and deaths,” Mr Lutunauga said.

“The Fiji Police Force is urging community leaders to be vigilant and speak up against such unruly behaviour.

“We need to work together in keeping our communities safe.”

Over the weekend, a number of alcohol-related incidents were reported to police.

One such incident was reported in Lautoka on Sunday morning when two men were rushed to the Lautoka Hospital after they were allegedly stabbed by an intoxicated street dweller along Narara Parade.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident adding the suspect is in police custody.

She said one of the victims was discharged yesterday while the second victim remained admitted.
