If the water cartage service does not arrive on Cikobia this week, two villages on the island will be without water, say village elders.
The call by the elders of Nautovatu and Nalele comes as the water in their primary source reaches critical levels.
Jo Wasasala, of Cikobia, said their water source had dropped to alarmingly low levels.
Mr Wasasala said there was a need for intervention by the Government.
“We met with the divisional officer about situation on the ground and advised him of the drastic need for water at the nursing station on Cikobia,” Mr Wasasala said.
If conditions worsened, he said the young people of the two villages would be relocated to another village where water levels were not as critically low.
“We will try to prioritise the elderly, women and the disabled.”
Mr Wasasala said there was a need for both short-term relief and long-term solutions to ensure a sustainable water supply.
“This has been a longstanding issue for the Government,” he added.
Minister for Rural, Maritime Development, and Disaster Management Sakiasi Ditoka said they had received reports of the water problems from Cikobia island and were working round-the-clock to address them.
