The restrooms at the Nabouwalu jetty on Sunday – SUPPLIED

A traveller has issued a heartfelt plea for urgent government action after experiencing what she described as “shocking and unacceptable” public restroom conditions at the Nabouwalu Jetty.

She took photographs of the restrooms on Sunday morning.

“Our Ministers sit in Parliament fighting like cats and dogs, and their issues get taken seriously, but the voice of the people is going over everyone’s head,” she said, seeking anonymity.

“The ladies’ restroom was so pathetic and smelly. The men’s washroom was closed. How is this acceptable at one of our busiest jetties?” she said.

She questioned why such basic facilities remain neglected in Fiji, while other countries enforce strict standards for public toilets at transportation hubs, towns, and service stations.

“There is no holding when nature calls. Everyone should have the right to use clean public restrooms.

“Why does this only happen in Fiji? Why have our Ministers never looked into this?”

“I hope something good is done. We can’t keep saying Fiji is developing when we can’t even maintain basic public facilities.”
