British High Commissioner to Fiji Dr Brian Jones has urged the public to report cases of bogus agents recruiting for the British Army.

“Nobody is authorised to conduct tests, invitations and anything other than the British Government,” he said.

“If anybody has these cases of bogus agents, we suggest talking to the Fiji police and us here at the high commission and we can make sure that those people are dealt with swiftly.

“We will be very clear when that open window comes for recruitment, and we’ll advertise that through all of the Fijian media when it comes but don’t believe anybody who tells you anything otherwise.”

With the British Army applications still on hold, Dr Jones said they would be in touch across the Fijian system to alert anyone who was interested in joining.

“That’s a process that the Minister for Armed Forces and his team are dealing with back in the UK. These are very structured bits of bureaucracy but we are looking forward to hearing from them very soon.”

He said they were trying their best to support those who wanted to go to the UK and remain there after they had served but also those who wanted to come back to Fiji and visit the UK.

“We look carefully at all our immigration rules, all our visa and passport issues and a lot of my colleagues in the UK are constantly focusing on how we can respect and acknowledge the service of British personnel and all those who have served in our armed forces.

“I can assure you that there are people who look closely at all applications, they take it very seriously.”
