Airports are more than just transport infrastructure; they are essential enablers of national development for Pacific Island nations, says Fiji Airports CEO Mesake Nawari.

Mr Nawari stressed this during the opening of the first ACI–ICAO Annex 14 Regional Workshop, hosted by Fiji Airports includes in Nadi yesterday.

While addressing representatives from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Pacific Island countries, Mr Nawari emphasised said aviation served as a vital link for island communities.

“Our airports connect island communities, support tourism and trade, facilitate emergency response, and link our people to the wider world,”he said.

“In many respects, aviation is not just a service for Pacific nations; it is a lifeline.”

Mr Nawari said regional workshops were valuable for addressing the unique practical challenges faced by island states and sharing experiences to strengthen the entire aviation community.

The workshop is supported by the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) and features facilitators from ICAO, focusing on ensuring regional aerodromes remain resilient and capable of meeting global demands.
