Litiana Cama says she has two memorable experiences in her 31 years of flying with Air Pacific and then Fiji Airways.
The first was when she was assigned to look after Princess Anne on her return flight to Auckland, New Zealand, after a brief visit to Fiji in July 2006.
“When I was called to do the flight, I was in shock,” the former senior flight attendant said.
“How can a girl from Raiwai Top Shop be called to serve a member of the royal family?”
Ms Cama said her second experience also remained etched in her mind. It was the death of a passenger.
But her takeaway from the experience was the courage, strength and resilience displayed by the cabin crew, doctors who were on board the Sydney-Nadi flight and passengers who were eager to help out.
“It just shows that no matter who we are or where we’re from, we are one people, humankind.”
Ms Cama said her three decades with the national carrier had prepared her for any kind of emergency or situation.
“If I walk down the street and someone has cardiac arrest, I can respond and attend to them, I have been trained and I am experienced.
“And I thank Air Pacific and Fiji Airways for giving me that.”
The Fiji Times has been sharing stories of the experiences of former Fiji Airways flight attendants.
