MAYA Angelou once said, do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.

Richa Kantharia, who graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering from USP, is looking forward to what life has instore for her.

The 22-year-old, who was awarded the prize of the Best Performing Female Student of the Bachelor of Engineering program, said her family was very important in influencing her path.

“Being the middle child of a close-knit family, I was put in a special situation where I was surrounded by younger and older siblings, each with their own goals and characteristics,” she said.

“My family taught me the importance of tenacity, resilience and hard work. From a young age, I was inspired to follow my passion and aim for greatness in whatever I did.

“My parents, they were my models of commitment and perseverance.”

As to how she got interested in the field of engineering, Ms Kantharia said she had become interested in physics in high school, and having seen how quickly technology was evolving with the significant effects it was having on day-to-day lives, it piqued her interest even further.

“I saw a career in engineering as a means of expanding my knowledge of physics and helping to create innovative technologies that have the potential to influence society in the future.

“I viewed it as a chance to turn my love of science and technology into a fulfilling and significant career path.”

Ms Kantharia said a major difficulty she faced during her years of studying was trying to find a balance between her schoolwork, extracurricular activities and personal responsibilities

“I progressively improved my time management abilities and established a good balance between my personal and academic endeavours by being persistent and determined.”

Ms Kantharia said maintaining motivation and resilience throughout her academic journey was a dynamic process that required a multi-faceted approach, such as setting goals, having a positive outlook, seeking help from friends along with family and self-care.

“Acknowledging and commemorating little accomplishments along the journey provides inspiration and validation for advancement,” she said

She wants to use her education and skills to further her career in electrical and electronics engineering.

“In the end, I want my job to have a good influence and help build innovative solutions that solve problems in the real world and enhance the lives of people.”
