THE Agri-Innovate Competition 2025, a nationwide initiative aimed at driving innovation and sustainable growth in the country’s agriculture and agri-food sectors, was launched in Suva this week. The competition is a result of collaboration between Business Assistance Fiji (BAF), the Ministry of Finance, Commerce and Business Development, the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways, and international partners including the European Union and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
It forms a key part of the Sustainable Transformation of Domestic Agri-food Systems in Fiji (STODAS) project.
One of the highlights of this year’s programme is the establishment of Fiji’s first Agribusiness Incubation Centre, which will provide tailored training, mentorship and resources to help entrepreneurs develop and scale their innovative solutions.
BAF acting general manager Nitika Singh said to participate, businesses must operate in the agriculture, agri-food or value-chain sectors and be registered in Fiji.
“We’re looking for ventures that show growth potential, innovation, and market readiness,” she said.
The competition will select 20 agri-innovators to showcase their talents. The top 10 applicants will attend a virtual 10-day bootcamp, and the leading three will receive $5000 in funding and the opportunity to pitch their innovations at the MSME Conference 2026.
Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel described the launch as a milestone, stating: “Your innovation could be the solution that strengthens our food systems, reduces our dependency on imports, drives value creation and creates employment in Fiji.”
Minister for Agriculture and Waterways Tomasi Tunabuna added: “This competition provides the knowledge, mentorship, exposure, and networks to help you take your business to the next level.”
Assistant FAO representative in Fiji Joann Suyi Young told participants their contributions matter, whether they work on sustainable horticulture, value added products, digital agriculture, agro processing, climate smart farming or any other innovation.
The Agri-Innovate Competition 2025 would become a catalyst for innovation, sustainable development and stronger partnerships in Fiji’s agri-food sector. Applications are now open and will close on January 14, 2026.
