MANAGING of Fiji’s maritime resources should be easier after a delimitation agreement was signed yesterday between the Fijian Government, Tuvalu and France representing their territory nation — Wallis and Futuna.
The signing marked a second successful meeting between the governments of the three island states in the Pacific region to reach an amicable solution for the three countries.
Fiji, Tuvalu and Wallis and Futuna all share common and overlapping exclusive economic zones (EEZs) commonly referred to as a “tri-junction point”.
Fiji’s roving ambassador in the Pacific Litia Mawi said Fiji believed it was in her interest that all maritime boundaries shared with neighbouring island states were determined and mutually agreed through respectful dialogue and peaceful negotiations.
Navy Commander John Fox said the agreement would not only assist the Navy but Fiji.
