Govind Park is set to shine with advanced turf technology.
As the redevelopment of Govind Park enters Phase 2, much attention is focused on the newly installed field.
Manager at Heritage Building Craig McGrath, the contractor overseeing the field’s construction, provided insights into the innovative features.
“The field will be covered with Hybrid Bermuda grass, a type specifically bred for use as sports turf. Known for its high wear and drought tolerance, Hybrid Bermuda is an ideal choice for the often-harsh conditions in Ba. The turf will cover a total area of 13,143 square meters (1.3143 hectares), providing a lush, resilient playing surface,” McGrath said.
This grass is designed to withstand heavy use and challenging weather conditions, making it perfect for Govind Park.
The field’s drainage system is equally impressive. Sub-surface and channel drainage will be installed to efficiently manage water, ensuring that the field remains in playable condition even after heavy rainfall.
The fully automated Rain Bird irrigation system will keep the turf healthy and hydrated, further enhancing the field’s durability.
“The turf will be irrigated with a fully automated Rain Bird system.
“There will be sub-surface and channel drainage installed to assist with the drainage of the field,” he added.
Although the field’s design can’t prevent flooding an ever-present risk in Ba Town, McGrath assured that the turf and field are equipped to handle it.
“We can’t mitigate against flooding, if it happens it happens. The turf and field will cope with being flooded no problems.
“Once the floodwater recedes it will most likely need a cleanup from debris/silt and then would be good to go,” he added.
