Adi Litia Qionibaravi is not well enough to stand trial, lawyer Sevuloni Valenitabua told the High Court in Suva yesterday.
Adi Litia is charged with one count each of giving false information to a public servant and obtaining an advantage.
She is alleged to have given false information regarding her residential address and allegedly claimed parliamentary allowances she was not entitled to.
The matter was called before High Court judge Justice Dr Thushara Kumarage.
Mr Valenitabua told the court that Adi Litia was not present in court and that a medical certificate was emailed to the court and served to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) lawyer Darren Hickes.
Mr Valenitabua said the medical certificate was not in the format acceptable to the court and that the doctor in charge of Adi Litia’s care had not yet been able to file the proper medical certificate.
When asked by Justice Kumarage whether Adi Litia would be able to attend trial, Mr Valenitabua said she had suffered acute stroke and was not well enough to stand trial.
He also said a proper critique of Adi Litia’s condition would need to be made.
Mr Hickes asked the court to take another mention date for FICAC to confirm its position.
The matter will be called again on June 15.
