The Adele track Make You Feel My Love has been revealed as the perfect love song, according to Spotify.
The digital music service worked with a professor in cognitive psychology and neuroscience to uncover a formula for writing the ideal romantic track.
The components Spotify identified for a successful song include sentimental lyrics, a slow tempo and syncopated rhythm as well as a major key and standard chord progression. Adele’s 2008 cover of the Bob Dylan classic was rated ahead of the older classics Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye and versions of I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston.
Eric Clapton’s Wonderful Tonight and Elvis’s smash hit Love Me Tender rounded out the top five, while Let Her Go by Passenger was the only single from this decade to register on the list.
Spotify also carried out research that shows men prefer to listen to male voices and women are the biggest listeners of love songs, with the research showing women resonate more with the higher octaves of a female voice than the lower tones of a man’s.
