The President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Masato Kanda, arrived in Fiji last night for an official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation with Fiji and the wider Pacific region.
In a statement, Mr Kanda said Fiji has been a valued and longstanding partner of the ADB, with the partnership deepening in recent years.
“In recent years, our partnership has strengthened significantly, with expanded support aligned with Fiji’s evolving priorities, spanning emergency response, long-term resilience, and private sector development,” Mr Kanda said.
He noted that ADB’s work with Fiji is focused on laying the foundations for sustainable and inclusive growth, particularly in the face of climate risks and economic challenges.
Beyond the bilateral relationship, Mr Kanda highlighted Fiji’s importance to the region.
“Situated at the geographic heart of the Pacific, Fiji serves as a hub for regional cooperation and dialogue,” he said.
During his visit, the ADB President is expected to meet with government leaders and regional partners to discuss ongoing and future areas of collaboration.
“I look forward to engaging with government leaders and regional partners as we continue strengthening cooperation and advancing priorities central to Fiji and the Pacific,” Mr Kanda said.
ADB has been a key development partner for Fiji, supporting projects across infrastructure, climate resilience, disaster response, and private sector development, as well as regional initiatives that benefit Pacific island countries.
